Speciality poultry products
Growing use of proteins
Four of our plants are producing a high protein, low ash, pure poultry by-product meal. Since the meal is golden brown in color and highly palatable, it is readily accepted and is used widely in pet food rations.
Recent research has shown that this product is also a very reliable and cost effective substitute for fishmeal in swine starter rations. Ongoing research suggests this product is a very cost efficient substitute for fishmeal in all aquaculture rations as well.
Low free fatty acids
The fat portion from this process is a yellow color with a free fatty acid max of 5%. This fat is used in feeds for all species, pet foods, industrial applications and, most recently, bioenergy.
EU Certification
Our Fayetteville, NC, facility is certified under Regulation EC 1774/2002 as a Category 3 Rendering Facility. This approval allows product to go to pet food manufacturers for inclusion in products bound for the EU or the product can be shipped direct to the EU.
Poultry by-product meal and poultry fat from this plant are certified under this Regulation.
Our Miffintown, PA, facility has approval under this same Regulation for frozen meat products.
Bioenergy alternatives
Increased energy prices, backed by a heavier global demand for fuel, has opened an exciting new market for our fat products. Our products offer a reliable, cost effective source of alternative energy and are being utilized as a replacement for #2, #4, or #6 oil, in addition to natural gas.
When used to replace petroleum based products, a substantial reduction in sulfur emissions has been well documented.
We are evaluating other methods of utilizing alternative energy that include solid fuel burning boilers to potentially burn materials not suited for the animal feed market and methane capture off of anaerobic digestion.
Valley Proteins/Carolina By-Products is committed to the ongoing production and use of alternative energies.
Biodiesel
Biodiesel is the latest marketing channel for our rendered fats and oils. Recent United States government initiatives indicate that the use of these products will grow significantly as the biodiesel industry expands.
These products offer a low cost, quality feedstock for biodiesel production.
We have shown our commitment to this new industry through use of a 20% biodiesel blend in our truck fleet. We are a member of the National Biodiesel Board.
